Just the 13th

Not that Dean believed in bad things on Friday the 13th, but today was turning out far better than he expected.

He'd given Josie a whirl around or two, several times actually, on the merry-go-round. After while, they laid there on the metal letting it leisurely spin on it own.

Dean almost bumped his head. He'd forgotten the time and his phone had died. It was starting to get dark.

"Shit." He put his old black sneaker down to come to a halt on the merry-go-around.

"I have to walk you home," he said.

"You, don't have too." Josie rose up on her elbows that he could leave her here if he needed too.

"No. I'm not going to leave you." He winced as if that would be so wrong. "What if something happened? I don't think .." He didn't want to say it, but she had been so emotional. "I'll walk you home. Just ..to be safe."

"OK." She didn't look too happy about it.

"You, have your phone with you?" He needed to call home so he wouldn't be in trouble, either. They walked back toward her house.

She shook her head, no.

Mom knows best

It wasn't long until they got there. Dinner was on the table. Josie's mother shook his hand, and invited him to stay for dinner.

"I dunno. I need to call home." He didn't know how to say no. Luckily, he wasn't in trouble, and he could stay for tacos.

He was stuffed before he knew it. He stuck around to help with the dishes. Naturally, Josie wanted to know if he could watch a movie.

"Well," Dean sighed knowing he'd probably never have a chance again. He hoped he wasn't too selfish. "Sure."

He wasn't going to mind it a bit if Josie drove him home.

  3. Oh, I do think he respects Josie, a lot. I have to wonder if she knows how to react to that kind of respect.
