like a shot in the arm

best friends

Daisy knew she shouldn't have come. It wasn't that she hated to see Max with Sara. She was used to it. She guessed. Hansen was really excited about the dance too. He'd dressed up in a black suit even if he did wear a V-neck green Tee under the jacket, and he was sporting his green Chuck Taylors. He was all smiles, like he'd never be upset with her. Of course, he would never say he was mad at her because that was just the kind of guy Hansen was. Nothing could obviously rattle him.

Except tonight.

She'd spent a good portion of it with the toilet. Like right now. She was sitting with her knees bunched up under her white ruffled dress. What ever got in to her? To wear white. She'd thrown up twice already.

"Daisy, are you, OK?" Hansen tapped on the stall door.

No, she was not. She was so exhausted. She might as well have been planted in cement. She only bolted to the toilet if she had too. Otherwise, Daisy was completely still.

"I know.." He sighed. "I shouldn't be in the women's restroom, but you were gone an awful long time. Do you want me to take you home?"

She finally opened the metal door and looked at him. He was sipping on a cup of something from Long John Silvers.

"I was getting nervous. I thought you, ditched me. I was hungry so I got something I never eat. I don't like fried fish, except with lots of hot sauce. And..I got you an unsweetened tea." He smiled ever so kind and handed it to her.

She took it. She couldn't get enough of the iced tea. She was so thirsty.

He helped her up. She was a little shaky.

She could hear the music playing from here. A part of her envied everyone in that room, but she was certain she'd made her choice. Besides, she had Hansen. That was all she needed.
