Call Me Pale

Call Me Pale

Jonah was hesitant to pick up. But of course, he was still up. He was busy with a new storyline on his comic book.

He couldn't say they were floating in money, nor had he quit his day job, but there was a publisher in Korea who was interested in his lonely boy series where he was a superhero of sorts, finding monsters in the most ordinary ways.

"What?" His voice was blunt. Yes, he knew it was Halie. He at least picked up. Maybe he had 30 seconds are so to hang up. He really was glad he hadn't been that smitten with her. It was hard to explain. It really could have happened. The two of them getting mixed up together. Thank God, the comic book took off when it did. After all, this was truly his baby which would always come first.

"Is that all, you can say? Its me, Jonah?" There she went, being the hot head he knew she was. Always right about everything.

"Yeah, I know." He festered a frown. "What is it?" He looked at the time, it was going on one in the morning.

"I've been thinking." She told him.

"Oh goodie." He sighed as he looked at his laptop before him with the words of his story. "Can, you just be quick?" He really loved his story. She'd never get it. He needed to be there in the thick of his passion. It was far better than sex could ever be.

"I want you to be the father of my baby." She was dead serious.

Jonah's eyes blurred. It was as if the words mashed together.

"This like a series of trips to the clinic, or something?" He scowled. "What are you going on about?"

"You know, we belong together. We're good. And..and I ..need you."

Jonah rolled his eyes at that.

He heard her clear her throat. Obviously, she was crying.

"Jesus, did you, really got out of your way? Just to make my life difficult?" Jonah frowned more.

"Not really. It wasn't to get back at you. But I know..I know, you love babies. I've seen you around them.." She was blubbering now.

"What do you want me to do?" He winced harder.

"I need to see a doctor." She told him.

"And?"

"Can, you, catch the metro?" It sounded an awful lot like a math problem that would be more fun to do if it were in a book and not something he'd have to do on foot.

"Fine." Jonah wished he hadn't said. He wrote down the details. He supposed he'd have to be there for her. After all, she was Jules' sister.
