nothing can compare

Nothing Can Compare

Oh, he was right. Hutch was so right. Kera was still drowning in her misery long after her night with Gage.

What was she thinking?

"He's just a kid!" Hutch told her point blank. Well, she'd been a little drunk then. He didn't feel like a kid, she said. Not the things he knew. Gage might have ended up her bed if Hutch hadn't came to the rescue.

Was that what that was? She winced now.

Why hadn't she stayed with the rest in the livingroom? It was not fun, anymore. She felt so useless. But she took another phone call with  her head piece on. Someone might as well have been talking to a robot. She was on autopilot. Thank God, she was a wealth of information.

Funny, how Kera was good with people on the phone, but not actually in reality.

She bit her bottom lip, in thought about Hutch who'd put her to bed that night. She threw up on him instead of Gage, but he paid it no mind. Still, Hutch was the one to clean her up and put her to bed.

She still felt a slight ache in the back of her eyes. She really did owe him dinner. Or something.

Maybe he was a real friend. She didn't know.

Finally, on break, she called him on her own iPhone.

"Oh, so.. you... are alive." Was his immediate comeback which she did not find funny.

"Yeah, I am." She wanted to be so sullen. Where did she make this right? "Just stop being so damn funny! All right." She did not want to hear laughter in his voice.

"All right." He didn't sound so hokey now.

"I owe you one." She finally admitted.

"No, you don't." He told her.

"Yes, I do." She felt a flood of tears slipping from her. "I want to take you out."

"OK." He said to her surprise.

Kera wasn't sure what to say.

"Meet me at Love's."

"What's that?" She winced.

"Just a little Mom and Pop cafe. Best soul food around." He told her the address. "Promise, it won't cost you an arm and a  leg."
