Just 24 hours

Just 24 hours

Joel was heartbroken when Vada told him the news that she couldn't go. There was just no way. She didn't have a passport.

He felt as if it might be the worst summer ever (school was out). Joel was getting packed and going through the boxes that were left at Roman's house.

As it was Roman was in exile, himself. His parents weren't too happy about him getting hitched. Joel didn't exactly know what was going on, but Roman wasn't here.

Joel felt a bit numb now. He guessed seeing his mother was best, even if it were against his sister's wishes. Nora lived in a boarding house now.  He guessed he'd find a way to get her boxes to her, but first he wanted to look through his stuff. See if it were all accounted.

Naturally, he wanted to make sure he had his own passport. Funny, he never thought of it being important until Vada said she didn't have one. It was there. He packed it where he could find it. There was Nora's passport and extra I.Ds too.

When he looked at his sister's photo, he thought of Vada for a second. Their hair was the same length. There was an uncanny resemblance. Joel couldn't help but smile. He found himself laughing as if this was the best idea he'd ever had.

But, could they pull this off?

He got out his cell and called Vada. "Hey, I think I've got an idea. You know, you coming along with me, this summer."

"Joel? What are you talking about?" Vada sounded as if she was already in the midst of summer reading. She wanted to get ahead. She had a reading list for next year's important essays and term papers.

"Just, get over here. I think we can do this. It won't be a holiday if you're not there." Joel told her.

Vada gave him a sigh as if he shouldn't expect life to give him a bowl of cherries, but she said she'd come over and find out what he was planning.
