I'm Just a Teenage Dirtbag

Chevy kept staring at the baby picture on his camera. He was a grandfather. This was something he couldn't stop smiling about, but he felt sad too.

He felt as if he might cry, thinking it was all his fault. Especially, about Gage and what he'd become. He couldn't blink without tears.

It would do no good to be mad at him. It was too late for that. But it hurt that Gage told him the girl had lost the baby.

"I just want to know why?" Was it that big of a question? But Gage needed to explain. "Why would you tell me, she lost the baby?"

Gage kept quiet. He shrugged. He couldn't stop looking at the baby picture, either.

"It was nice of your cousin to send us a picture. Is he friends with her?" Chevy looked at Gage. Naturally, Gage looked at him even more bitter.

"How should I know?" Gage sucked in a breath.

"Do you want to talk to her?" Chevy asked.

Gage shook his head, no and crumbled on the couch.

Chevy went to him then and put his arms around him. He couldn't help to tell him that he wished he'd somehow been there for him. Before he was born.

"But I was selfish. I was so selfish. I hadn't a clue what was even going on. I just wanted another fix, you know. And..and I know..if..if there was even an inkling that ..that you might exist..I would be no good to you..And then I got arrested..It was like I was lost in this hell of a sea. No way, I could find my way back." He sighed. "But you..you are so much better than me. This ..this can be so different. So many good things ahead of you."

He hugged Gage. He didn't want to let him go, and he didn't want him to be alone.
