What are the odds?

What are the odds?

Henry felt he was in a tunnel he couldn't get out of.

"This isn't you!" He thought of Fish's words, even now, even if it were last week when Fish cornered him in the breakroom at the library. Alone. "You, of all people!" Fish didn't take this episode of Henry trying to medicate himself with ganja, lightly.

Henry still didn't want to talk about it. Not even to Josie. Especially, not Josie.

Of course, no one wanted to look at the upside of this. He was fine at Prom. Absolutely. Well, almost. Yes, there was that fact he'd spent the night with Josie, but even now..it felt like a strange dream. And of course, she hadn't called him out on it. None of it.

Anyway, he was at the hospital, going over the procedure about the mechanism they would implant near his collar bone and all it would take..a magnet to activate it, to help prevent a seizure.

He didn't want to be a robot. But this looked like his next step.

Henry was waiting for his brother to pick him up. Yet, Henry was so blue.

He strolled by the nursery as if that might bring him back to reality. Of course, he was mesmerized by the newborns. Instantly, he felt so old. Now he was teary eyed, thinking one of them might have to look forward to what he had to look forward too.

"What are you doing here?" Her voice woke him. He looked over to see Josie staring at the newborns, too.

"Its kind of a long story, but its suppose to only take at the most 15 minutes for the surgery." He shrugged.

She nodded.

"But it won't happen until next week." He sighed.

"Before school's out?"

"Yeap." He was even lipped.

"So what's the occasion?" He finally looked at her, looking so peaceful at the row of babies, swaddled and tucked in blue and pink caps.

"Rossie's having her baby."

"Oh."

The silence was killing him.

"Look, I'm sorry..if..if I was weird, you know." He nursed his bottom lip. "I know I'm impossible. I'm either disgustingly hyper or..or you know, lethargic."

"You were OK." She just said.

He winced, wondering what that exactly meant. A part of him begged to know if he were even a good lover or not. Even a responsible one. At the moment, he might never know.

"You're OK?" He wanted to know.

"Yeah." She didn't look at him though. As if it would never be a road they'd ever take, again.

But it was a night filled with laughter. Their night. Their PROM. He'd seen that smile. She was quite animated. That was what he remembered most.

He got a call. His brother was tied up at work.

Josie said she could take him home so he relayed the message to Aidan.
