Taylor checked for a text from Ben as if he might have missed one, but he didn't see anything. He looked up, to Sara who was sitting across from him at the back booth at Daisy's diner. He smiled.
"I guess..Ben..is OK." He hoped Mae would watch out for him at the party.
"He's just your roommate, right?" She slightly winced as if maybe there was more going on in this friendship.
He cracked up. "He did sleep with me the first night." He shrugged.
Now her eyes were intense with questions. "You're just messing with me, right?" She held on to her coffee mug.
"No, he actually did. It occurred to him..he wasn't home anymore, and he was really sad..so..it was the least I could do." Taylor was straight lipped about it now. Perhaps, he was testing her now.
"I wish I could be a friend like that." Sara finally admitted.
"What about Charlie?" Taylor wanted to know.
"I dunno if I'd ever know Charlie quite that well. I mean, she has Carson." Sara then mentioned that Essie used to date Carson.
"Huh." This was news to Taylor who felt his sister had been with Scott since the beginning of time. Those two were tight. Finishing each other's sentenced. They were even starting to look alike.
"Carson's kind of ..I won't say ..I dunno..he is really hard to get to know, and he's a cop now. And well, its like he thinks he's too good to have talk to anyone now." Sara sighed. "Not that I would have anything to talk to him about. Its just, I think he's a little demanding. I mean, Charlie does all the housework. I wish I could tell her, he's not worth it, but I can't do that."
She then told him it was hard for her to make friends.
"I guess I was too busy wanting a boyfriend when I was in high school." She shrugged. Finally she told him about her old boyfriend Max and what she'd done to his car when he broke up with her. "Now, he's got a kid with Daisy." She shook her head, "I can't ever imagine having a kid with Max."
Eyes wide open, Sara looked at him and nursed her bottom lip.
Taylor slightly winced. What was she trying to tell him?
