just a phone call away

just a phone call away

Brick shook his head. What in the world was this row about? He sighed and went to his room, so he didn't have to be there, for all the thunder between his mother and grandmother. About then, the phone rang. He knew who it was. He grabbed the cordless house phone and slammed the door behind him.

"Oh, hi, Aunt Brit." He smiled. She was always a ray of sunshine, even dark rainy days.. like this, she could somehow, always be sunny. He did wonder from time to time if something was wrong with her, or maybe his grandmother brought the wrong baby home from the hospital. But that was his story, or so he thought. He wasn't anything like his own mother, and yet he knew from the moment he met him..THAT WAS HIS DAD. But he didn't want to be a downer. "What's up?"

"I dunno, I just had some chili here. I don't think Carson could take another bite of it. He gets acid reflux, really bad. I thought I'd drop it off, for you guys." She told him.

"Does it have beans?" He asked. He hated that his mom always made it with beans. He'd eaten more than enough beans in his life.

"No. Carson doesn't like them in his chili."

"Great!" Brick's smile was broad. "We're all home. Bring it over." He hung up before he could tell her about the spat going on with Mom.

Brick sighed. He didn't want to think, who his mom might be seeing now. Honestly, he didn't want to be dragged into it. He was fine, staying with Granny.

  1. Maybe staying focused on his own life is the best thing Brick can do right now.
