aftermath

Omaha winced hard, thinking how could he have done such a thing?

Well, if Sheena was right here, right now, he knew what he'd say. "This is all your fault! You, should clean it up!" He might even pound his index finger straight into that bony chest of hers.

But he'd never be like that with her. He sighed. She was like looking down at a delicate bird that he couldn't watch enough of.

Oh, she'd had fun with the mixer that night they made brownies. She'd even sprayed him with chocolate brownie batter. And then, she was afraid he might get sick when he licked some off his face. Hadn't he heard of salmonella? He stared her down as if she were the weird one.

Even so, they'd had fun in the kitchen.

He gritted now, thinking it was all so weird now, but kind of funny. Yeah, they'd gotten closer than he'd ever expected. Just clowning around.

Still, he could remember wrapping his arms around her from behind. She'd laughed and even now, there was a soft laugh in his chest.

But the kitchen was a mess.

He'd walked her home. She'd put her phone number in his cell. There was a certainty, they might be seeing each other, again. Besides, at work.

He'd meant to ask her about her boyfriend. She had to have a boyfriend. Sheena, just had too. He thought, anyway.

Omaha imagined the boyfriend being a linebacker. He had to be atleast, the college level. Probably, soon to be on an NFL team.

Omaha started to stuff what he could in the trash, but he was taking his time.

Why did Sheena come over?

She'd taken the brownies home with her. A couple were left behind for Taylor's homecoming.

Omaha had had his fill. He looked at the time, it was early morning now.

But his cell rang. It was Sheena. Wondering what he was doing?

"What do you think I'm doing?" He did his best to be cold to her, but it didn't last long. He was happy she called, even if he was trying to get the kitchen cleaned up.
