a new best friend

a new best friend

Well, this was a surprise....

Josie couldn't believe this. She stared at Macy as if Macy might have a wacky twin lurking about and Josie was actually talking to her and not the real Macy.

In fact, Macy walked all the way to her house on a hot day. Josie was sure Macy would collapse. Or, had she walked all this way hoping if it were true, she might lose the baby this second from heat and exhaustion.

"Um, here." Josie grabbed a boxed pregnancy test from her undie drawer. Were they best friends or something? Yes, they'd talked about all sorts of stuff, lately. But Josie was certain this didn't have anything to do with the Japanese guy. "I gotta a million of  'um." Josie sighed, as if she might live one dream after another, lately.

Macy looked startled yet so timid, even holding the pregnancy test.

"What are you waiting for?" Josie pointed to the bathroom. She would not be giddy about this. Hadn't she played this game with Halie? She winced hard, thinking it was not a game. But what if she was pregnant with this Maxie's baby. Macy never mentioned him, until now.

"Its just, I haven't felt anything." Macy's words sounded worried. "Still, I can't even remember...you know...when I had my last period."

Josie hugged herself, wondering what Charlie (Macy lived with Charlie's family) would do. Oh, she'd have to tell Charlie if it were true. Josie nursed her bottom lip.

"You..you..you have to take care of yourself, no one else is gonna do it for you." Josie gritted. Now she was saying words her mother used. She pulled a strand of her dark hair behind her ear.

It was all so quiet.

Josie went to make tea. Of course, she thought Macy would know by now if she were pregnant or not.

  1. Macy needs to find out, living with uncertainty isn't good, once you know you can then deal with it...
