out of the blue

Gage thought he was seeing things. Maybe...it was someone who looked like Dustin at the grocery store.

He sighed as he went back to work, but then he noticed the black girl laughing, as she caught him around the waist, and then the guy smiled.

Yeap, it was Dustin.

"What are you doing here?" Gage called to Dustin.

Of course, there went Dustin's smile. He was all serious. Honestly, he looked a little scared. The girl looked at Gage as if he must have been mistaken.

Dustin went to the deli then.

"Uh, Gage." His voice was a little shaky, but he introduced Gage to Holly who was under his arm. "I..I..I'm at the Uni."

"Oh, for how long?" Gage was hoping for a short visit, he guessed.

"Um, not sure."

Gage nodded. Unsure, if he wanted to tell Halie about this. He knew he should, but he didn't want to see her upset.

"Don't guess you know, but Halie works at the public library, in town." Gage said it, as if it might be a good precaution.

"Oh." Dustin made it sound like he knew very well what Gage was telling him, and the maybe they were the best of friends, after all. Even if they'd shared lovers. "Then..then have you, seen Macy? She's back, you know."

Gage looked at him blankly. He hadn't seen her at the grocery store. Gage guessed his ex-girlfriend  didn't want to see him, anyway.
