a fresh start

a fresh start

Draco winced hard when he heard Charlie on the phone. This wasn't about Lily. Instead, it was about Macy.... who was standing in front of him.

Yes, she did look a little green. Maybe it had to do something with the new carpet in the apartment he was moving in to. They'd spent the day together, accidentally.

"Sure." Draco was trying his best to stay on the fence about this, or was that being casual, or just cool?

"Don't you care about Macy?" Charlie's words stung deep.

"OK." He had to sound as if he was talking about Lily or the new dog Barry wanted to get. "I'll..see what I can do."

He clicked off the phone.

"What was it this time?" Macy acted as if she knew it was Charlie, all along.

"Not..not anything." Naturally, Draco's thoughts were broken. He'd been walking around, showing the extra room off. "This will be Lily's room."

"Uh-huh." Macy was a little listless, or at least Draco finally noticed.

Still no furniture. After spending a day at Good Will and Salvation Army, they'd finally found a real furniture store that would deliver, but none of it would be here, until tomorrow.

"I'm so far behind, we..we should have really had dinner." It was way after 7 p.m. now.

Suddenly, he thought she might fall. Draco caught her shoulders.

"Hey, you." He looked her in the eye. "Why didn't you tell me-"

"What? Tell you what?" Her stunned look was troublesome. "Did ..did Josie tell?"

"Tell me." It wasn't really a question. Next thing he knew she was crying into his shoulder, mumbling something about a baby.

Draco thought he might feel faint, too. They had to get out of this fresh painted apartment.
