I've Been Thinking Lately

Joey tried his best to explain to Dakota that he wasn't leaving her. But he knew it didn't look that way.

He held her tight in the chilly afternoon air, as school let out. It was starting to cloud up. He looked up at the clouds. Possibly snow.

"I love you, you know." He felt the warm tears emerge, and he sniffed back the thought that he might seriously have a cold now.

"But, you always leave." Her words went off like a warning.

"It won't be like that." He promised. "I'll see you, most likely, every day. I'll try. I will." He held her hand as they walked home. "I'm just going to sleep, somewhere else." He nursed her bottom lip. "Besides, they..they need that room. They have someone coming, a boy. Xander and Ducky want to adopt him..and..and we need to let that happen. They've done so much for us."

"But-" She looked up at him as if she didn't like it.

"It'll be OK. You'll see." He wanted to say it was all temporary, but what if it wasn't?

He did need to get his act together. He was definitely never doing anything with Sid, again. He was leaving Corina behind, too.

Except, he would still have to work with her. He hoped she wouldn't stay mad at him, but for right now, it was probably a good thing..if she did stay mad at him.

He would look for a better job, a full-time job.

"Maybe..maybe you can come over to Vada's house, some time. She lives with her brother." He then mentioned.

"Is she you're girlfriend?" Dakota wanted to know.

"No. No..she's just a friend."

"What about Corina?" She looked at him with a small frown.

"Oh, you know, she's just a friend, too." He shrugged.

"But..but you sleep with your friends." Her sentence stung him, and he didn't have a wise answer for her.
