the outsider

the outsider

Joey was beginning to think Dakota was one of them. When did that happen?

He'd gone to a cook out at Xander's around the summer holiday. Dakota was so happy around Sunny, and even Ducky, along with Ducky's family. Yes, Joey truly felt like the outsider.

"Dad, why didn't you bring a girlfriend?" Dakota wanted to know.

"What girlfriend?" Joey was still a little peeved with her. Why did she have to bring something up, like that?

"I dunno, I thought you would have found a new one, by now." Her smile was full of laughter. After awhile she jabbed him in the ribs, and he tickled her right back.

Of course, she wanted to know how Corina was doing.

"How should I know?" Why was his little daughter like this?

"I saw her at the pizza place." Dakota beamed.

"Was she working?" He asked. and Dakota shook her head, no.

"She was with her new boyfriend. He's so tall, Dad. Taller, than you." She practically teased. "We talked about you."

"Uh-huh..what did she say?" Even now he couldn't believe he'd asked. But, what could he say, it was a lonely world out there. Not even a ghost nor an invisible friend dropped by, these days.

"She wanted to know if you were seeing, anyone." Dakota pressed a smile.

Joey told her he was busy these days with his apprenticeship. Yet, the days were long and the nights even longer. Yes, it was a restless hot summer.
