a romantic night like that

a romantic night

Candy was crushed when she saw Ollie with such pretty date.

The restaurant was packed. Candy told Jack they shouldn't have come, but he kept insisting that he owed her dinner.

She wasn't quite sure if she believed him. Especially, when all she saw was Jackie (the girl she used to know from her first semester at the University, her first roommate) not Jack who just broke up with his girlfriend.

It was true, he was feeling down and needed cheering up, but when Candy saw Ollie, she knew who she wanted to be with. And she felt a little sick when she saw him with that girl. She could only hope she was Ollie's little sister. She wasn't.

Ollie let them sit with them.

There was so much Candy wanted to tell Ollie about Jack, but all she could say was that they went way back.

He smiled as if Candy might be with her old lover. Candy winced wanting to say it wasn't that way.

"Maybe, next time we can go out together, in warmer weather." Jack grinned.

Valentina said she would like that. She told them Ollie just got his driver's license. The more Candy listened to Valentina, she knew she was stuck with Jack. Ollie was a lot younger than her, after all. And he should be seeing someone in high school.

It didn't seem fair. At moment, she was the only friend Jack had, and she knew she needed to be there for him. After all, he called her his best friend.
