"What?" Ducky's question made Xander feel all the more subdued. He could hardly make himself think, but he needed to tell him what he'd decided. He would raise Tessa's baby.
"Are you seriously.." Ducky shook his head, no. "Out of your mind?" He finally looked Xander in the eye. Xander only nodded.
It was the right thing to do.
"But..but what if the baby has.." Ducky started.
"I don't care." It felt like a sign to Xander, who needed this lifeline.
"You, should really talk to your dad." Ducky told him.
Xander was mute on the Dad subject. "You know, how he is. He's..he's never wanted me. He doesn't care." He held in as much as he could. He needed to stay calm. He didn't want to think of his own life. It was best to think of helping someone else.
"You're just an enabler." Ducky told him.
Xander thought he might fall to pieces. Would he lose Ducky in the process?
He hugged himself hard, wondering what Ducky wanted him to do.
"It's Kevin baby, isn't it?" Ducky knew.
Xander nodded.
"Its not your decision. Its his and Tessa's decision." Ducky reminded him they did have their hands full. Dakota was still here. They were still parents to Sunny and now Simon. And they might as well be parents to Kevin, too.
