out of the blue

When Will's phone vibrated at work, he expected it to be Ivy. Sometimes, she texted for no reason, other than to let him know she was thinking about him. Usually, it gave him a smile and he'd generally text back she was so adorable and he'd go on to putting books away. But today, it was a text from his cousin Bree.

"Guess, what?" The question popped up. He stared at it wondering what she was getting at. Was she in town? Last he heard she was still in upstate New York.

"What?" He texted back.

"I met someone who looks so much like you." She put in various smiley emojis. Naturally, Will rolled his eyes at that.

"You, dating him or something?" He smirked at the thought, staring at the screen.

"Yeah." She dinged back. Will winced. He thought she was still with Connor, but he knew Connor was going back to college this summer. Will guessed he was back, but he hadn't seen him. He guessed he should make an effort and catch up with his old friend.

"Are you serious?" Will squinted hard, thinking Bree was the worst after all. Just like Gabby always said. Only, he'd always taken Bree's side, since they were family.

"Of course." She told him his name was Torry and he was smart and funny. She'd met him on campus at a workshop. She was going to Art school in the fall. "Don't you wish you were here?" She then asked him if he missed her.

"I'm getting used to you being away." He was blunt. He didn't see a need in keeping up these sporadic texts.

"You would." She was her usual fussy midwestern self.

Will knew it was best to say goodbye, but she texted back asking if he was still with Ivy.

"What do you think?" He stared at their conversation on the screen.

"Gabby says Ivy wants to break up with you." Bree's text was harsh, but Will couldn't stop staring at it.
