I see the bad moon risin'

"What? You don't know?" Even Rafe was looking a little bug-eyed by the Lily news. He wouldn't have known if it hadn't been for KC who stopped him in the hall at their apartments.

"You and KC are talking?" This cracked up Boone, who wasn't really listening to the Lily information; he was busy working on something related to the dough machine.

"Well, yeah," Rafe shrugged.

Boone was busy with the machine. He knew a lot about it since they spent so much time together. If Rafe wasn't here, he would probably be talking to her. After all they worked together. He squinted as he wiped down the innards of the machine.

"I hope that thing is turned off," Rafe then said.

"It is," Boone looked up at him as he sat on the stool, resting his weary bones. Autumn brought more people in for hot drinks, which led to baked goods. He yawned as if wishing he could take a quick nap.

"You aren't worried about Lily at all?" Rafe was back to this whole mess.

"No, not really." His voice was dull. He turned to his coffee, but it was cold. He needed caffeine, but he didn't feel like moving. "She didn't call." It was a relief that she didn't. But listening to how Lily almost married a guy she hardly knew was disturbing. He had to admit, he was glad they were done. He didn't need that kind of drama.

But all was good with Maddie. It was a slow dance that didn't need to take off somewhere. Still, they made each other happy just being there. He knew Rafe wouldn't understand it, and he didn't expect him to, but it was where he wanted to be. He just didn't have that with Lily.

"I'm sure she'll figure it out," Boone sighed. "I think living on her own would be a good thing."

Rafe nodded. Boone looked at Rafe and he couldn't help but feel happy.

"What's so funny?" Rafe wanted to know who finally went to get Boone a fresh cup of coffee.

"I don't know," Boone shrugged. "You and I can talk. You can talk to KC, but I can't see all of us getting together for anything."

"Yeah, Maddie might think differently about that. And Ruby..oh Ruby...no way can you have KC and her in a room together. They work at the same place and never cross paths."

  9. Almost marrying someone you hardly know, not a smart thing for sure. Sounds like she's needs lots of attention, to be the center of things. Good, bad or indifferent, just needs attention.
