"Do you know what Josie is up too?" Max cornered Daisy who was at her locker, getting her books ready for the next class.
"Why would I know anything?" She looked at him as if he were just being silly. "We aren't exactly friends, you know."
"I know." He walked with her to class, but it wasn't Josie's fault. He wasn't her confidant like he used to be. And he was actually happy that he wasn't. Max had listened to one too many of her problems. He didn't want to be caught in the middle of the drama between Josie and Derrick.
"Actually, they are pretty much drama queens." Daisy clarified. "I know that's harsh, but really, do they ever come around, unless they want something, from you?"
Max thought on that one.
"I dunno. I thought Josie...was changing." After all, she did taxi them around. But then again, that was last year ..which wasn't that long ago. "But Derrick is Derrick. I dunno why he cares so much about what she's doing. I mean...He's gay." Max shrugged with a smile. But he wished he hadn't said it. He'd never talked that way about Derrick before, yet this was true. Wasn't it? "Maybe he needs a boyfriend." Max looked at Daisy.
"Well, I don't know of anyone." She looked at him as if she couldn't play cupid.
"You did get Topher and Josie together, didn't you?" Max teased.
"They would have found each other...eventually." She sighed.
Max nodded. Really, Josie was not his problem, anymore. He put his hand in Daisy's. Good things really did come to those who waited. It was his new mantra.
Oh, I have doubts Daisy could ever cross Max.
ReplyDeleteAnd a wonderful mantra at that! :)
