woe is me

"How was the concert?" Derrick asked a few days later when he was finally alone with his brother, Max.

"What concert?" Max was busy sorting clothes from the dryer. He gave Derrick a bunch of his black boxers.

"You know, the one that Josie went to, with you and Daisy." Derrick smiled as if he had the best brother in the world. One that would do the laundry and take out his girl. Although, Derrick was even in shock to think of Josie that way, he guessed it was true and he should get used to this fact.

"I didn't take Josie, anywhere." Max cracked up. "In fact, I don't even have my license yet, remember?"

"But..but Josie mentioned  a concert. I-I just assumed she went with you and Daisy?" Derrick was busy. It bothered him that he didn't know the whole truth. Was she holding something back from him?

He didn't want to believe Josie would do such a thing. It was best not to jump to conclusions. She put up a lot with him. The odd hours they kept, but she was always there for him, and it was possibly too comfortable for his own good.

Was it possible for it to be that way? Maybe he should try harder. Maybe take her out, every once in a while. It was true. He was taking her for granted.

"OH." Max said as an after thought.

"What?" Derrick wanted to know.

"Its probably nothing." His grin wasn't quite genuine.

"You can tell me?" Derrick winced. He needed to know.

"There's this guy from Hot Topic. She might have gone out with him." Max shrugged.

"Do you know something?" Derrick felt as if he'd been wounded.

"I'm, I'm just telling you what I know." Max hurried to take his clothes back to his room. Naturally, he left Derrick in a stew. He didn't want to worry. Derrick scratched the back of his head wondering just what to do about this.
