seize the day

Things were changing. Lily couldn't say exactly what it was, but Brick was changing. It was a good change, she kept telling herself.

No, he hadn't kissed her since the French Kiss on the beach. Actually, he was aloof. Was that really a good thing? She kept asking herself. Of course, the episodes of thoughts always happened when she should have been thinking about something else.

"Are you OK?" Macy asked with baby Stephen in tow at the department store. They were looking for a dress for Macy's wedding.

Lily nodded, trying not to think too much about Brick, but she couldn't let it go. Perhaps, she wanted clarification. Was he really her boyfriend? Yet, it was best to remember Macy and her Dad's wedding was at the end of the month.

"I don't know why you didn't ask my mom for a dress," Lily said before she remembered her mom was with her Dad. She winced, but then fondly remembered it was her Mom who introduced Macy to her Dad. She smiled.

"She isn't feeling well." Macy looked at Lily, as if they should both be more thoughtful, about her mother's pregnancy. "I did want her to be my maid of honor, but I know my mom would want my sister to do it."

"But it's your wedding." Lily reminded her it was supposed to be what she wanted.

"We will be happy with something small," Macy said she wanted a little party with friends.

Lily couldn't help but be in a pout. She wanted the event to be spectacular.

"Don't worry," Macy said. "You can dress up."

After all, Lily was the flower girl.
