Sometimes, the third time's a charm. Something like that, at least Kevin decided. Yes, he was certain it was all his fault. He contemplated much of the summer wanting to blame his miserable life on his rich father. Of course, that was the past and he worked for his so-called brother, who was probably the saint of all family, who was basically an orphan, to begin with...Xander.
Of course, he didn't feel like discussing this with Xander. He'd maintain the image he was all right and he didn't care what anyone thought of his poor little rich boy status. And then he met Meggie who worked at the nail salon.
Somehow, she managed to make the day better with her smile and the little things she did for him, like fresh coffee or the info he needed on the best summer colors or what to expect what customers wanted for each season. And she had stealer customer skills to soothe anyone's problem. She listened, she smiled and never lost her cool.
And then she gave him a haircut, which made Kevin so content he thought he woul fall asleep at her fingertips. He wanted to pay her, but she wouldn't take his money so then he asked her out to dinner. It was the least he could do.
"I couldn't," she said. "Besides, I have my daughter Cassie." She said she left her home alone too much as it was.
Kevin knew he wasn't exactly kid proof. He'd dated someone earlier this summer who had a baby and he wasn't exactly good with changing diapers and all that crying. But Cassie was in elementary school.
Still, he wondered now, if he hadn't hit it off with Cassie if he would be dating Meggie. Perhaps, it was best not to dwell, but to enjoy each moment he had with them. Finally, he wasn't thinking about the past, nor his friendship with Xander.
Yes, Meggie was the ray of sunshine he'd been looking for.
