just like the first week we met
Brian guessed the easy part was filling out the application at the University personnel office. He had to sit through the background check in anticipation of the worst. As if he might be a runaway misfit of some kind. Only, no one was looking for him evidently. Actually, it made him a little sad. And then he was approved. He could start tomorrow.
He wasn't sure he was ready for such good news, but Ivy was.
When he told her over his Android, she hooted as if he might be getting ready for the football team. He squinted as if he really didn't want to start his life here at the University at the bottom of the barrel.
"Oh, don't be so hard on yourself." She told him later when he got home. She had nachos waiting for him and of course, his favorite energy drink.
He hated to tell her she was the only one who cared about him. He knew he was not on her mother's favorite list and his mom nor sister hadn't called him all summer. He knew his dad wouldn't because he was certain he'd be happy to be rid of him.
Of course, he thought all his energy was drained from having to be patience the entire day. Naturally, Ivy warmed him up with her happy smile.
"But, will you be mad?" Brian asked.
"Why would I be mad?" Her arm was around him. They were cozy in their room.
"I'm gonna be a janitor." He shrugged.
"But its a job." She smiled. She then promised she was going to find a job, too.
"Really?" He looked at her with his eyes opened wide. He couldn't think of her working. She was clearly a princess in his eyes. "Its gonna be your first semester." He told her she should wait. After all, she was the one with the brains, not him. "I'll do the work. You, study." Brian nuzzled up against her neck.
He swore he wouldn't goof around on the job. He'd been so lucky, this far. No one knew how he could find the time even at work to have a little ganja on break time.
