one thing leads to another

Valentina just couldn't help it. She'd set up a sewing machine up at the Downtown Coffee Shop in these late days of summer. She never knew when she might have a moment or two to be creative. But now she was wondering if she could make crochet flowers. As of yet, none were quite what she liked. Just as she was ready to get on her phone and find a YOUTUBE video for help, in walked a girl with her baby and possibly her boyfriend.

Valentina didn't want to assume to much. Of course, both seemed to be interesting in what she was making. She showed them her sock critters and other almost plushies. Yes, they'd been made by hand. Although, some of the fabric dolls she'd done on the sewing machine. She was sure, they hadn't come in to sign up for a mini-course on dollmaking.

But he saw the yarn and the crochet hook. And without any hesitation, started crocheting the flower that Valentina was trying to make.

"How did you do that?" Valentina smiled. Even the girl was fascinated by what he'd made.

"Oh, I'm not sure." His smile was open. "It's been ages. Had a sister who was into crocheting and sometimes, when I wasn't in the mood to do much else, I'd crochet too."

He made it sound therapeutic. Valentina thought it was a headache. She gave them the last of the green tea lemonade. She asked them if they'd moved into the neighborhood.

"Oh, we're not to gether." The girl smiled. "He's my neighbor Evan and I'm Lux and this is Jake."

Valentina took the baby from the stroller. He was heavy and a handful. She was happy to make new friends.
