in need of romance

Jordon was on the outs with her Dad again. He was fussy after he retired from the post office. She guessed if he'd worked one more year he might have gone postal. Of course, they never saw eye to eye on anything.

She was certain now, she hated him and she needed to talk about it, to someone.

"Well, Luxie ain't here." As soon as Wade looked at her, she knew he didn't want to look at her.

But somewhere in Jordon's head, she just wanted to examine him, because she wished she could be him. It was breathtaking and disturbing in the same moment. It wasn't like her to be this way. And Wade really didn't want to give her the time of day, but he said she could wait.

"I dunno when they'll be back," He shook the lock of hair away from his eyes but he looked much more mysterious with his hair hiding his eyes.

"Who?" Jordon drew a blank, forgetting why she was even here for a second or two. Wade winced as if maybe Jordon was on drugs.

"Luxie and Jake, who do you think?" He squinted harder as he pushed back his heavy hair and turned from her.

"Jake?" Jordon sounded frantic as if she didn't need Lux dating someone. "She's seeing someone?"

"The baby." He was straight lipped as he plopped on the couch and turned on the news.

"Baby." Jordon formed a small frown. She'd forgotten about Lux's child. "Oh." She didn't mean to be sarcastic. Besides, she couldn't take her eyes off Wade.

"What?" He looked up at Jordon, eyeing her up and down. "You dating my sister or something?" Just the idea coming from him sounded so harsh.

Jordon dropped to the other side of the couch, edging to the end. "No, we..we go way back." He told her they went to middle school together. "She's..she's like my only friend." She did her best not to look at him, but she couldn't help herself.

"I don't even care if you like her, or not." His words were so sobering.

Jordon nursed her bottom lip. At moment, she didn't really want to go out with Lux. After all, she knew Lux didn't like her that way.
