there she goes
Dustin always knew Holly was strong even if she could be a drama queen from time to time. She was in labor for so long that he stopped counting the hours, but when the little bundle of joy arrived he knew they both forgot the tension they'd been through.
Even so, she'd squeezed his hand till it felt it was cut off from the rest of his body. She'd pulled his hair as if to punish him for getting her in this predicament. But it was worth it, in the end. They now had Autumn Juniper to coo over.
"I think we should call her Juni." She smiled holding the infant close to her.
"What? No." He winced. "Her name is Autumn." After all, she'd talked about the baby's name endlessly. "Remember, we decided."
"I can still call her Juni, if I want too." She looked at him as if he should know by now who ruled the roost.
Yes, they still lived down the hall from her best friend Natalie, who was recovering at home from a bad back she didn't know she had. He knew Holly had been counting on her to watch the baby while she could rest. Now it was just he and a little help from Joon who felt too new at this sort of fatherhood stuff.
Dustin took the sleeping baby from her. She slumbered so easily. Although, from what he knew of babies, she would outgrow it in a few weeks. He thought of Halie and how it was when he was with her. But this was different, he was somebody's father from the moment she arrived.
He smiled as if he was relieved he would never be like his own father. Maybe in a week or two he would call his half brother with the news, or maybe a text with the baby's picture. He was honestly, too tired to decide.
Someone knocked softly at the door. He went to see who was there. To his surprise it was Halie and Gage bringing gifts.
