This I know

Halie couldn't remember when she actually forgave Dustin, and maybe it didn't really matter when it happened, but she didn't think any more about her past with him. After all, she was with Gage and it had been an uphill battle to choose her life goals with him, but they were still together with their preschool son, Alec.

Of course, Halie didn't think much of anything these days but work and her college studies. Still part-time at the library and a full-time student in library science, she was right where she wanted to be. And it was hard to think what to do when she found out from Effy at work that Holly had her baby.

Naturally, Gage thought they should visit and bring food. But she wanted to do more. After all,  it was therapeutic to look at baby girl clothes. Gage only smiled as if it were a nice thought to want to have a daughter. But not anytime soon. Their weekends were filled with activities with their son Alec.

Yes, she could look back now and see the good times she'd had with Dustin when Alec was only an infant. She knew now she'd been so hard to live with back then. Well, she knew Gage had been through enough with her ups and downs.

Still, she always thought Dustin would have been a good father. Although, maybe she didn't know anything about good fathers. Yet, she was optimistic now. Gage had proved he was a fine one.

It had been a sad road with her mother and all her afflictions, but she'd seen how her brother turned out, being a good family man. She knew it could happen to herself if she just let it.

It was true, she didn't let go of things easily, even the ugly moments in her life, but she felt she'd turned a corner and things were looking up, and she wasn't gloating nor conniving. She was ready to be friends again with Dustin and his wife Holly.

"Maybe, she'll even call me Auntie one day," Halie grinned taking the sleeping baby from Dustin's arms.

This sort of thing could be addictive too. Yes, she wanted him to know they were a wonderful family, after all.
