looking back
"She didn't look unhappy at all to me," Natalie told Joon when he brought up the fact that Jared didn't think Char was well.
Natalie was busy moving her herbs and pepper plants to the window for sun. She'd been busy these last few weeks wanting to grow her own salad. After all, she was the one to bring it to his attention how expensive veg was these days.
"I'm just telling you what he said." Joon wished he hadn't brought it up. He didn't know what Jared expected from him. He barely knew him. They weren't really friends. Although, he'd gone out with Char and Jared a few times with Natalie back when he and Natalie were first dating.
Still, it felt so long ago now. As it was, they had a lot to think about in the future with the baby coming. They couldn't decide what to do first. Get married or buy a house.
He really couldn't see them living in an apartment with a baby. The walls were thin. His mind raced with just trying to get in and out of the building with a baby. And what if something worse happened? Like a fire or some natural disaster. This was what was on his mind. A totally new set of relationship goals.
"Char is way more grown-up than Jared." Natalie decided.
"Do they have a house?" Joon asked, thinking he really wanted to know. How did they make something happen like that? After all, they were only college students with part-time jobs.
"No, but you know-" Natalie shrugged.
Joon knew he needed to hurry up and graduate and look for a real job that could give them a future. Of course, he couldn't tell Natalie what he was really worried about. She was happy with what life had given him. He wanted to be just as happy, but in his heart was an ache that they might be in debt forever.
