Jay and Janine arrived about a week ago. Sure, Ivy was excited to meet Brian's sister Janine. After all, Jay and Janine were new parents. It felt good to know Brian's family. Of course, his mother didn't come. This still worried Ivy. Why was that?
So of course, Ivy had her fill with picture taking on the first day. And going out with Brian's relatives (Still, in Ivy's mind Jay was too good looking for his own good. How did his sister catch someone like that.) It wasn't long til Ivy got her fill with that, too. After all, Jay was Brian's best friend. He'd known Janine forever. She'd never been with anyone else.
Yes, Ivy was beginning to think this party was only meant for Brian. And they wouldn't go home.
It was alarming. Ivy did her best not to get too rattled. She wanted to know Brian's sister, but did they need to move in?
"What's going on?" Ivy asked Brian when they had a chance to be alone in the bathroom. She knew her mother was ready for those two to leave.
"Jay lost his job." Brian winced at the confession. "And, mom left town with a truck driver." His grin was trying to be funny.
Ivy pushed him away and frowned. "What are we gonna do?"
"I dunno." Brian nursed his bottom lip. He was out of ideas.
Ivy pressed her lips tight, wondering just how were they going to get out of this?
