it's a new day

Valentina vowed she'd never fall in love, again. Ste smiled and shook his head, no. There was still Ste to turn to, like a big brother.

"You, haven't even had it out with Ollie yet." He told her there was a certain protocol to breaking up.

"He doesn't want to talk to me." She hugged herself hard. She didn't like the silent treatment, but she didn't want to hear his final words, either. She knew what happened. Gabby blabbed it all to Ste and in turn he told her the truth about Gabby and Ollie.

"It was just a one-off," Ste reminded her. Wasn't she the forgiving type?

Valentina swelled a frown. Evidently, she wasn't. After all, he'd changed. He wasn't like the Ollie she remembered. And it hurt how much she'd given him, until now. After weeks of being in a state of a broken heart, she woke up one lunch period and saw the new guy, Robby from her Living at Home class.

He smiled. She saw him in a new light, and they started talking about practically nothing. Next thing, Robby kept showing up at the bakery and she found herself laughing with him.

"You're one giddy lass around him," Ste said he'd seen a spark.

She winced not wanting to believe it, but he confirmed how animated she was around Robby. They were in the same grade.

"It's time to let yourself be happy," Ste messed with her hair again as if he was the only big brother she'd ever need. "Not saying you have to do anything more. Don't please him in the least. You just enjoy spring and see what the summer has in store for you."

Valentina was at a loss for words. She wanted to be sad about Ollie and what he'd meant to her. She looked at Ste wondering if he'd take his own advice with Gabby out of his life now.
