a friend indeed
Char guessed she understood why Sally came to the Downtown Bakery. Sally didn't need to bring the baby around all the noise and paint fumes going on at Char and Diago's new place.
"What's up?" Char smiled at her friend, thinking something must have happened. She didn't even have the baby with her.
"Oh, I dunno. My mom said she could watch her for a while," Sally explained she was suppose to be studying at the library.
"Are things OK with you and Micah?" Char didn't want to think the worst.
"Right now, I guess." Sally was mute about her relationship with Micah, who seemed to have warmed up to fatherhood. Sally nursed her bottom lip whiled Char went to get her a fresh lemonade. They took a seat at the back booth. No one was here to bother them. Of course, Sally asked how things were going with the new place.
"A lot of work and not enough money." Char tried to smile, but she was certain she'd never be able to afford anything. "You're so lucky to have a little one and to be with your parents." Char tried not to envy Sally, but Sally had so much.
"I guess." Sally didn't sound so sure. She said she got hounded a lot and her parents wished Micah would get his act together.
"It always takes time," Char said, but she felt she was taking too much time. She was no where where she really wanted to be in life. She should be married by now, thinking about a family of her own, but it was all on hold. "I guess I've got a family after all." She laughed softly and then told Sally about Sid moving in with them.
"I want to move in too." Sally looked at her sadly as if she really needed to say what was on her mind.
"Talk to me," Char looked at Sally's woeful face. "What's really going on?"
