Ste thought maybe hiding in the back walk-in freezer might be the only way to cool him down from all that had happened in the last few days. Jules was giving him the bakery. He'd decided to move his family back to England.
Ste was sure he'd faint with the news, but he begged Jules to think on this. What was so urgent?
It wasn't until then that Ste learned of his mother's passing and he really needed to be with his Dad, and he wanted his little ones to get to know him. And he'd missed home.
But what was Ste going to do? He felt as if Jules was a brother he never had. The one who guided him on a daily basis.
"You'll hire help." Jules shrugged as if it were no big deal. He'd left all those procedures in his office. "You've got Valentina to help you."
"But, but she's only in high school." Ste felt he was fading fast. Forget his torn relationship with Gabby. This was his real life.
Ste shook his head, thinking no way could someone like Valentina get him through the daily ordeal of keeping the money in check.
He stepped out of the freezer ready to burst into tears. He heard someone call for him up front.
"Oh, sorry," he mumbled as he went to see was the customer might want.
"I see you have a job opening," she said she'd moved only a block or two away and was needed to keep busy.
"Seriously?" He looked at her heart-shaped face and sweet smile. There was a tickle in his throat when he found out she did major in business.
"I think we've met before." She smiled.
"Oh." Ste was a bit afraid to know when.
Of course, she knew him from a class at the Uni. She was Char and she was here to help.
