just the two of us
Maddie didn't want to be happy when she saw Ollie at the grocery store in his grocery store tee. He was helping at the self-checkouts. She couldn't help but smirk, just a little.
Why wouldn't this feeling go away? She felt a bit woozy these days. Especially, in his presences. She couldn't remember this ever happening with anyone else. Of course, she was past the teen years now. If someone looked at her really hard, they couldn't tell she wasn't seventeen.
No, she was almost twenty-four now. Perhaps, far from ever having a relationship. She'd been wise during her teen years and studied her heart out. Of course, even then it didn't get her very far, but a measly scholarship, here and there.
It was a racket. Maddie was beginning to think, she was still at the grocery store and she'd be graduating from the University by December. She hated the thought of another summer of studying. She didn't want too. Especially, since she'd caught eye of Ollie.
Now he'd caught her eye, as she was behind the bakery counter with a grumbling stomach. She held it for a second.
"What's wrong?" He wanted to know as if he might be her dark prince who was actually here to help instead of flirting.
"Oh, nothing." Perhaps her look was vacant, as she pressed her lips tight. Thinking, she should do better with being nice to others. She assumed he didn't think much of her since their last encounter.
"When do you get off?" He wanted to know.
Maddie swelled a frown as if that be entirely wrong. "Why?"
She felt a little fainting. It was so wrong. He was younger than here. Her stomach grumbled so. He almost smiled.
"Let's get something to eat." His words startled her.
"What?" Her brow furrowed. She almost sighed.
"Come on, you're hungry." He smiled. "You have to eat."
She shook her head, no. She was on her intermittent fast. It was too early to eat. Except, her stomach begged to differ.
Maddie felt her fingertips on his hand. When had he grabbed it?
"Your hands are like ice," Ollie said out of concern.
Maddie sucked in a breath. She couldn't remember the last time someone took her hand. But he was buying her breakfast, and it wouldn't be donuts.
