just like most

It didn't take long but Amira scarfed down the monster chocolate chip cookie that Ste made earlier of a prototype he was wanting to sell at the bakery.

Before he could ask if it was too much for a person, it was gone.

"Is it OK?" He watched her slurp down a glass of whole milk. She nodded.

"I want the recipe," she said giving him a look that he better confess. He only shrugged but smirked a smile. Why did he love to watch her eat?

Supposedly, they were dating, but they never went anywhere. Instead, they cooked together after hours.  She liked making massive sandwiches and he supplied a new desert.

"You know, I can't do that." After all, they did work in different places. He did have to make a living at the bakery. She was just the main sandwich maker at the sandwich shop. "Maybe..some day."

He thought of the two of them working together side by side. After all, she knew about milk teas and bubble teas. "You'll work for me."

"Work for you-" Her eyes lit as if that was an impossibility. Just then the front door jingled. The place was empty. Ste thought he'd locked the door. But the fellow was alone and a bit stoic.

"Could a bother for a cuppa brew?" He winced ever so slightly with an even lip.

Amira stared as if she was on to something.

"What?" Ste wondered if she knew him, but Amira was pointing to Ste.

"He-" Amira started, "Sounds a lot like you."

Ste did note the British accent, but that wasn't much to say they had in common.

"But that's not it." She shook her head and winced with her arms crossed.

Ste went to the kettle and made the hot tea. He had no idea what she was getting at.

"Excuse me, mate, you wouldn't happen to be Ste?" When the tall fellow asked a shiver went through Ste. Instantly, Ste wondered if it were an old foe of his brother's who'd come all this way to settle a debt.

"I'm Jaxon."

Ste brought him the brew sweetened with a little sugar. He offered him cream but Jaxon sipped it plain, sitting at the table with Amira.

"I dunno a good way to put it," Jaxon looked a Ste. "But I think you're my long lost brother."

Ste felt he was choking for air. He'd settled on the fact he didn't have any family.

"What?" Ste leaned against the counter, not sure he wanted to take this sitting down. Even so, he felt a little woozy.

"Oh, I can see it," Amira assured him and made a place for him to sit with her, so Ste took a seat and  let Amira's arm rest on his back.

"Well, I was in the country anyway. thought I'd look you up," he said he was going to the University in the fall. He was studying cyber security. His mother knew Ste's dad when he was in the military. He was a year or so older than Maxie was the first thing to come to Ste's mind.

"You're brothers, I can tell." Amiria kept saying. Ste swelled a frown and so did Jaxon.
