Between you and me
"Relax," Jared didn't get it. Why was Amira always so worried about something. Usually, it was the sandwich shop. Now it was Ste and his family. "Don't you know, you bring all of this on yourself." He felt like giving her a good shake. As they were in the tight galley kitchen of the old shop. Both were in a sea of sweat trying to make sure it was clean and ready for the noon rush that usually started about eleven in the morning.
She sighed and pushed her damp hair back as she went on to prep the bread. This was the time she had to calculate just how many sandwiches they might sell. The crust was crunchy yet the bread was soft. There were no sandwiches around quite like hers with pork and a sweet yet hot barbecue sauce, along with tangy coleslaw. They offered other sandwiches and salads, but this was what people came for.
"Just shut up," she practically elbowed him in the rib. He knew then he was too close, but he wanted to be close. He wanted to be the one she came too. Not Ste. Didn't she see her best friend was standing next to her?
Jared pressed his lips tight. It was hopeless. Or he was just hopeless. The door of the sandwich shop jingled. He looked up. To his surprise, a lovely redhead was at the counter. She looked radiant and he couldn't help but want to stare.
Jared made his way. He did his best to smile. He so wanted to cheer her up, but the customer didn't look any more happy than Amira.
Why was it like this? Did he just have this kind of effect on women?
"Can I help you?" He asked.
She wanted their lavender blueberry tea. He asked if she wanted it with milk and bubble.
"Whatever." She was quite bitter. Jared nodded. Evidently, he was just going to have to surprise her and hope he could make her day.
