here we are
It was so easy to have anxieties. Char did her best to hide them. She didn't want to worry Diago. In her book, she was just as much to blame for their situation. After all, they came from nothing and had gotten by on the kindness of strangers.
She was sure God must have something to do with it, in spite of not being religious. Still, she believed the good everyone was a sign that God was among them. Although, she didn't want Diago to think she'd suddenly got romantically religious. Yet, her heart tightened a bit more wondering where this year would take them. She knew she had to be grateful they'd sufficed.
She'd lost her manager job at the retail business that was no more. She'd managed to keep the bakery organized and the payroll going. If that wasn't enough, she thought of her short-lived romance while still at the University. Back when she was so immature.
Char couldn't quite smile about it. A lump lodged in her throat, wondering what it would be like to be with Jared now.
She went back to washing the pot then rinsing it. She wanted to tell herself she was stronger now. Maybe it was Jared's doing. After all, he was the one who'd cheated on her and there was Diago to listen to all her troubles.
Diago was a friend and a lover who'd been by her side on a daily basis. She knew no other who could withstand the tide of time and make what others would find in discontent as some adventure.
There romance wasn't made of flowers or going out to couple's destinations. It was simple. Just being there for each other. And though, her heart was heavy weighing in the future, she knew she wouldn't want to be with anyone else.
"I have something for you," Diago's voice awoke her. She turned to see what was in the palm of his hand. It was two wedding bands.
"It won't be fancy, but let's get our wedding license today," he said.
She smiled with a nod as he placed the ring on her wedding finger. Yes, it was about time they did this.
