if it makes you happy
Macy didn't know if she had a right to do it, but even on a long shopping day like Black Friday, she felt she had to talk to her little sister. After all, there weren't many times lately when it was just the two of them. Granted she was a mommy now and couldn't get the Baby Shark tune out of her mind, but she was a sister too and maybe she'd neglected to be a big sister.
They went through the drive-through for their favorite latte's. They'd rummaged through the major department stores but finally found themselves at peace finding yarn at the fabric place. Lately, she'd shifted her goals to more domestic bliss. After all, her husband was an art teacher and they liked anything homemade. But she'd gone to the stores with her sister for that after Thanksgiving ritual.
"Do you know how many times I've worried about you this past year?" She looked at her red-head of a sister with freckles to match as if maybe she was born to be just a bit mischief.
Gabby sipped her sweet creamy latte. She wouldn't look at her sister while Macy parked in the Scooter's parking lot.
"I'm..I'm going to figure this out," Gabby told her.
Macy shook her head, thinking running away with a stranger and marrying him was not figuring out.
"Look, I know you have been through a lot, growing up," Macy started but didn't want to bring up her sister's past in foster homes and frightening times. "but..but the fact is you are suicidal." She kept her eye on Gabby who turned away. Macy hoped she was listening. "I know what you're thinking, you haven't physically hurt yourself, but you put yourself in such dangerous situations. You can't keep doing this."
"I know," Gabby cleared her throat.
"Just once, think about who you're hurting," Macy was certain she might as well be talking to the wall. "We love you. We want you to have a good life, but its up to you. We can only do so much."
"I know." She promised it was different this time. She really felt Jared was the one.
"But..but you hardly know him." Macy looked at her blankly.
"But..but I know what I like about him," she told her sister. "I know he's been hurt too. And we both know what happy is. We make each other happy."
Macy hoped Gabby was right.
