Thoughts of Thanksgiving

Omaha was let down to find out his best friend Taylor couldn't make it for Thanksgiving, but that didn't stop him from making plans to smoke the turkey out back. Although, it felt all the days were rushing by with the baby and making sure to tend to it and Sheena.

OK, he was enjoying it, but he didn't really talk about it. Of course, there was Josh and Minnie to turn too. They would be there with their little ones and Minnie would be manning all the side dishes. Cooking, still wasn't his wife Sheena's favorite thing.

But now Minnie was inviting her friends.

"What gives you the right to tell people to come to my house?" Omaha winced. He didn't know this Jay.

"Yes, you do," Minnie reminded him it was Jay who climbed his roof and cleaned the gutters. "He took all the leaves away. You awe him."

"Wait a minute?" Omaha sighed and shook his head, no. He turned to his now best friend. "How does she find these people?"

Josh shrugged. "I think she met him at the park over the summer. You know, the one just down the street from here. And you know how Minnie is, she's going know what's going on with a stranger..no matter what." He hugged himself and looked at Minnie out the corner of his eye.

Of course, she was busy chopping veg for a stew in the kitchen.

"Oh, you people." She pointed the butcher knife at both of them. "Jay's having a hard time. His wife left him. He misses her and their baby. He drove for Uber and Doordash for a while, but I think he's lonesome and afraid he might go off the deep end."

She'd found him a place to rent, up above somebody's garage just a block or two from Omaha's place which wasn't all that far from where Minnie and Josh lived.

"I hope you're not matchmaking," Omaha swelled a frown.

Minnie rolled her eyes and fretted slightly as she went back to put the veg in the pot of boiling beef and broth.

It was hard to make friends and the ones Omaha knew were his family. He just didn't know he'd have family coming for Thanksgiving.
