it never seems to be enough

Valentina couldn't say if she was just stressed or depressed with the holidays.

"Maybe, you just bit off more than you could chew," was Robby's analogy. After all she'd started crocheting hats right and left in early November, but then came papers to write at school and offers of her hats to be sold for charity at a few local craft shows. No way could she keep up. Although, she thought she was organized enough. Perhaps, not tending to all of Robby's boyfriend needs, but he could wait.

"No, that's not it." She was beginning to worry about her mom and Robby's dad. They'd all spent a friendly Thanksgiving together. Jool's and his beau rounded out the table. At least, her mom thought of Jools as family. And Valentina thought Robby's dad might not like having BL relatives, but he'd taken her mom all over the place for Black Friday. "What if they get married?" Valentina brought this to Robby's attention when he brought over take out pizza.

Robby rolled his eyes at that. "It's not gonna happen." He shrugged. He said his dad vowed not to get married in 2019.

"What about 2020?" Valentina knew it would be just wrong if his Dad hooked up with her Mom. What if they became siblings? A blended family?

Robby shook his head and reminded her how many times his dad had been burned. "He'll go broke if he keeps this up."

Val nodded thinking that might be reason enough for his dad to stop with the fast proposals and the quickie marriages. Maybe her mom was just a friend because she wanted them all to get along.

Her mom worked at the middle school now as a secretary. She wasn't fostering children anymore and She and Jools were another family for her mom to worry about.

She hoped his dad had wised up and her mother would never want to marry again. As it was she did see her dad one weekend out of the month. Sometimes, Robby went with her. He had his barren apartment. Usually, they went to a movie, or Val might cook for him.

He never asked about her mother. She still didn't know why they didn't stay married. It was a mystery she might never find the answer too.

So all these worries kept her hands busy and she crocheted more, wishing all hat sized could be the same. After all this craft of yarn, she still felt she had a lot to learn. She couldn't help but start another hat, and Robby watched, mentioning from time to time she needed to take a break. What if she hurt her hands?

  1. Would it really be so bad if their parents got together? I think she's stressing over nothing.
