Oh what a Thanksgiving

Effy studied the Secret Santa list on the break room bulletin board. She winced. It was Christmas, already? She didn't even feel like being a part of the club that had annual dues and a piggy bank where you could pitch in for snacks to buy. Of course, the counter was full of Thanksgiving leftover treats.

"So did you have a good Thanksgiving?" Henry asked.

Effy tensed. She wasn't sure if she wanted her library co-worker to know just what kind of girl she was. Come to think of it during Thanksgiving she felt really good about being with Duffy and his little son Alvin. It was nice to spend the day with them. It was filled with laughter and good food and she even wore her Christmas dress already.

"It was good," She smiled wanting to leave it, at that. Henry smiled chatting about his kids and the turkey and pumpkin pie. "Until..I got home." She blurted.

Henry stared at her waiting for her to spill it. If she could tell anyone, it was Henry. He'd been there when she decided to stay behind and not go with her boyfriend Jamie to Seattle. He'd said she was selfish and didn't love him enough. She'd felt bad then, but maybe not so much this time.

"Jamie was waiting for me," Effy said, hugging herself hard, thinking this probably wasn't a good time to mention she was in a liplock with Duffy. She slightly shivered. Alvin was asleep in Duffy's arms.

Effy wanted to smile but she knew she should be sad.

Jamie let Duffy know he was still Effy's boyfriend.

Effy nursed the right corner of her lip.

"I stayed at Duffy's place Thanksgiving night," she told Henry which meant she stayed through Black Friday and even Buy Local Saturday. In fact, she was still staying at Duffy's. It was her way of giving her ex the silent treatment.
