if we only knew

Lynsey was glad Casey could pick her up from Josie's. Still, she wondered if she was asking too much.

"I really don't want to bother you," but she didn't drive and she hated to ask her father or her mother when she probably could have walked. Although, it was quite as spring as it looked. There was a cold north wind and it was almost dark.

"It's fine," he told her he was out to the grocery store, anyway. Maybe she should go shopping with him.

Lynsey couldn't help but smile since that was where they first met. Maybe it was good to have someone to do things with. She didn't want to say they were dating because it was so accidental.

"So, is she a friend of yours?" Casey wanted to know if she'd gone to school with Josie.

"No, I haven't lived here that long," she told him she still had a sister in Korea but she felt she had family here too. She'd stayed with this family off and on through the years and decided she wanted to stay this time. "I know Josie's husband at the library. They need a babysitter, from time to time."

Casey only nodded as they headed to the grocery store. While they were there he bought her a coffee and they walked the isle leisurely as if maybe it might be a date, after all.

"So, are you like a Nanny, or something?" He winced.

"Oh, no." She couldn't think of herself as that. Yet she didn't want to tell him that she didn't really work. She didn't want him to think of her as a problem. Lynsey certainly didn't want to be his problem.
