once upon a time

"Cheating on you?" Henry didn't like the sound of that as his brow tensed. "What are you talking about?" He was in the middle of washing dishes and Josie had him cornered.

At least she wasn't breastfeeding. It seemed to be her last stand of being a true mother since she couldn't have any more kids.

"What is wrong with you?" He was in a pout. Couldn't she see he was tired and still so hurt after his last seizure? Not physically but emotionally.

She went on to make caffeine-free tea and waited for him to come to the kitchen table.

"What is wrong with you?" She winced as if she might kick him in the shin if he didn't confide in her.

"Is there anything not wrong with me?" He almost laughed, but it hurt to think how pathetic he actually was. He took a seat, but he really didn't feel like talking. Things had gone so well as of late. With the babies, Josie's health, she was cancer-free. He hadn't had a seizure in ages.

"Don't you see, I can't ..I can't even watch our two properly. I can't drive. It's amazing I still have a job." He shrugged. "I've let you down." Yes, there was a time, he felt certain he might never ever have another seizure. And then when he did, he felt he'd lost part of himself.

"You're not happy," Josie finally blurted.

"I am. I'm happy with you. I'm happy we have these two." Although, he worried all the time. He could barely sleep these days. He was restless. "I'm sorry."

"Why are you sorry?" Josie reminded him that he'd always been able to tell her everything, now she felt he was hiding something from her.

"These new meds make me feel, I don't know. It's different," he sighed. Perhaps he was growing old. He wasn't that go-to guy he always thought he was who could ride a bicycle in a dress suit.

"Well, you should talk to those doctors. Maybe they need to check you out, see if anything else is wrong." Josie told him.

Henry shook his head. He didn't want anything else to be wrong.

  1. First off I would like to say wonderful blog!
I had a quick question that I'd like to ask if you don't mind.

I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.
I've had a tough time clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out.
I do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like
the first 10 to 15 minutes are lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips?
    Cheers!

  2. First off, thank you so much for reading and commenting.

Try not to pressure yourself when you write. As they say, just start writing..Although, easier said than done.

Personally, I love seeing that blank space on my computer and start typing.

I did nanowritmo on my phone once. I thought I had written so much texting it back to myself. Boy, was I wrong.

Sometimes, I like to picture write since my head is full of crackships (actors you will probably never see acting together who become my characters..hence, that's where the collages come in. ) Sometimes.

I have to admit I like for the scene to simmer in my head, if possible, but sometimes..its just the need to write. And sometimes, you want to challenge yourself.

What's going to make it interesting?

I have to say, I have voices in my head, and they let me know, they want to be heard (Hope that doesn't sound too crazy) thus, I love dialogue.

There are so many ways to present a story.

a Text through the character's phone.

Sometimes, an interview is very enlightening. You might want to write your character's personal history. A play. Who knows...

Of course, some characters are more interesting than others, bottom line..can you make them interesting.

There is the idea of bringing in what is around you.

It could all start from a squashed bug you saw on the warm sidewalk.

Some of us are more storyteller than writers. Some of us wonder what might happen to our characters in the next scene.

Just don't give up. Don't feel it's been a waste of your time. Start that story and see it through. Find your voice. Tune into that camera of your imagination.

Does that mean you have to start at the beginning? Of course, not.

All the best to your writing.

    Thanks again, for you comment.

    Sincerely,
    ellie

  6. Thanks so much for the comments. Honestly, I have been busy even if I have been staying home these days. And mix in anxieties of what is going on in the world..well, I feel I am rather sporadic when it comes to writing these days.
