Monday the 13th

Was it the 13th? Already?

Valentina felt Easter passed in silence. She remembered those lacy dresses once upon a time she wore when she was little. Of course, they were scratchy and she couldn't wait to get out of them. Definitely, they were wrong to wear during an Easter Egg Hunt.

Oh, she thought of the savory ham with all the fixings. They didn't have that this year. Instead, it was all rather cold with egg sandwiches and extremely quiet.

Robby was giving her the cold shoulder with a puffed frown. She went on about her day. Although, he argued about what they'd argued about. His sex life.

She honestly felt sorry for him. Obviously, it wasn't all that memorable. Not quite like her adventures with Ollie, which of course, were of no importance now. She kept telling herself. Of course, those were the days when her very old soul assured her that there would be no other than Ollie.

It was a figment of her imagination now as if he were her kingdom that would never shatter, but he was honestly human after all. Ollie wasn't as strong as she was, and the older Val got the less strength she felt of this outer world.

And then a storm came last night. Possibly, it was early morning when she jumped out of bed while the thunder boomed and she went straight to Robby.

Of course, he was more frightened because she woke him, but she crawled into bed as he turned from her. She wrapped her arms around his stomach and planted her forehead in the middle of shoulder blades.

He did not move and neither did she as the storm continued. Later, he awoke first and went to make coffee. He brought her breakfast in bed, which was coffee, buttered toast, and jam.

Robby was still a bit sullen as if he hated to lose this fight. Still, the fact she knew without a word, they needed each other. Somehow they'd suffice. He went to wash the dishes while looked at her mess of crochet as she pieced together a larger crochet, an afgan.

"This is for you," she held it up to the light.

"Really?" Robby asked what he was supposed to do with it.

"Keep it someplace safe," she smiled, thinking it was a lot like their love. They needed to stay safe and healthy.
