stranger things

One moment Iona was wanting to go on a trail she'd always wanted to go on. Then next she was happy to find an old nail polish in her bag that she forgot she had. At this rate, Micah thought they'd never be on their way.

And then they found the girl in the road. He gasped, thinking he could have run over her. If it weren't for Iona he might not have stopped. Even then it worried him what to do next.

He'd never been in a situation like this, and he'd seen a lot of things being on the road with a band.

At least Iona asked her questions, sitting in the back seat with her. They gave her water. She looked as if she was barely hanging on.

Iona found out her name was Ivy and she was from Omaha.

"That's where we're from," Iona smiled as Micah drove on to Rapid City to get her to the hospital.

"You wouldn't like to me, would you?" Ivy's lips were dry and she looked as if she might fall asleep.

"No, I had..I had to see my cousin," Iona hesitated, trying to be her upbeat self.

Micah knew she was tired too. This was really the last thing they needed, but at the same time, it felt like fate. They had been there at the right time.

Soon they got her to the emergency room and the police were called. Micah knew they were in for a long night.

"I can stay with her, you can drive back," Iona told him as if she'd made a new best friend. They'd talked of all their favorite places and the things they'd do one day when everything got back to normal after the pandemic. Of course, Ivy seemed surprised to know the pandemic was still going on.

"I don't think so," Micah said about him driving back. No way was he going to let Iona be alone in a city with a strange girl from Omaha. He said he'd help track down some of Ivy's family to let them know she was here, but first, he needed to call his brother Keir to let him know he'd be late getting his car back to him.
