falling in to place

Casey wasn't so sure he could handle any more family. After all, he thought he had a heart condition after finding out the news of Lynsey's pregnancy. It wasn't that he didn't want to be a dad. It was the frightening aspect of what the future held.

From the election to meteors coming near the earth, it all shook him to the soul. How in world were they going to get by? Of course, he worked from home and it was a fairly stable job, but everything was so unnerving these days, and then Jory showed up.

Casey wanted to throw a fit and ask Lynsey why hadn't she told him, but of course he didn't. He clenched his jaw and said nothing. He was pretty darn sure Jory would move in, but Jory said in the middle of dinner, "Oh, I already have a place."

Actually, he was full of surprises. He'd been in town well over a month and was already working at the post office.

"The post office?" Casey winced. Were they even hiring?

"Oh yeah, much easier there, than UPS," he shrugged, telling them how he was fired when he got to the warehouse five minutes late.

Casey didn't get Jory at all. Did he really want to make a long life of such a miserable job? But he said he loved it. He was a city postal worker and he got to wear a uniform. He insisted it was much better than being a rural carrier. Evidently, he knew a lot about the postal system and he needed nothing from Lynsey nor Casey. He said he wouldn't bother them much.

"But I want you to bother me," Lynsey was truly happy to have her little brother here. Casey knew they'd be seeing Jory probably for Sunday dinner.

Casey knew he could get used to this, but did he really want too? Of course, he'd gotten used to a lot of things since meeting Lynsey. Perhaps, he was the most boring. But Casey liked it that way.

  1. Sort of a triangle here, with Lindsey's brother, Jory, as the additional third side. Perhaps his presence will help in some way, given Lindsey's pregnancy.

  4. Interesting dinner. Being a couple has its challenges. For example, when two people are an item, then their share connections, friends and family members.
