I just wanted to be kind

Bom was afraid it was bad news. She'd sensed it in her dreams that Jay wasn't coming home.

"I think Dan might be busy during Thanksgiving," Ivy said instead. That's when she told him he had a sister he'd never met. He was trying to find her.

"But, but you can still have Thanksgiving with us," Bom said hoping it didn't make Ivy sad. As it was, Keanu was slumbering on  her as if she was his only bed.

Ivy cleared her throat as if she wanted Bom to give her the baby, but Bom didn't budge. He was asleep as she was used to this. It was a part of her daily life. She learned to love these moments after months with him.

"We can talk," Bom said. "Is anything bothering you?"

"I don't guess," but her sigh was heavy.

"Did you hear from Jay?" Bom asked.

Ivy shook her head, no. She was mute.

"Really, it'll be OK," Bom found herself saying. "You'll see. It might take a while, but you are so much stronger now. I believe you can do anything."

Ivy smiled but even lipped. "You're the best, you know that Bom." But Bom sensed the envy in Ivy's heart.

"He loves you too," she meant the baby. Nobody else.

"But he loves you. He really loves you," Ivy said about Keanu. "I don't guess, I really knew we..we were sharing him, until now."

"Oh." Maybe Bom had forgotten. She guessed she was just used to this by habit. He loved sleeping on her in the afternoons. "I'm sorry."

"No, I'm the one who's sorry. I'm the one who..who..." Ivy couldn't finish her sentence. "Thank you, for taking such care of him. Thank you for being here."

"I don't want him to forget you, you know," Bom knew Keanu was still important to her. "I'm just here for..for right now."

"I want you to always be here, especially for him and for Brian too." Ivy began to sniff back tears.

"Hey, stop it," Bom tried to laugh, but she had a baby asleep on her chest. "We got Thanksgiving to worry about, you know."

Bom didn't care if it were just the four of them or a houseful. There was a lot to look forward to. This was no time to be troubled.

    1. Val has always been part of the Foster system (her mom being a Foster mom), but she was adopted early on. And it wasn't something she ever thought about since she is very close to her mom. So you haven't missed anything. Thanks so much for reading!
