a new sensation

 

Jory hated being put on the spot like this. No way did he want to move to the dungeon with his so-called brother-in-law. He was fine where he was, but Poppy kept that worried gaze through Thanksgiving dinner and his sister wasn't much better.

"What do you think is going to happen to me there?" He bellowed once dinner was done and he was helping clean up with Poppy.

"I dunno, a drug deal gone bad," Poppy looked so helpless, yet he could tell she didn't want him to be mad at her.

"It could happen where you are too," he didn't mean to scare her but bad things happened everywhere, not just at the Wayward Pines motel.

Naturally, he wasn't making a move anywhere. Not this week. And then when he came by to pick Poppy up for a little Christmas light watching, Alfie's best friend decided.

"Alfie can move in with Simon and me," Steve sounded as if it were a no brainer. "Besides, this might give you two a chance to see if you really get along."

"But.." Jory wasn't sure he was ready for something like living together.

"It wouldn't have to be that way. You could have Alfie's room." Of course, Steve made it sound like the right thing to do. "Your sister will be happy. Poppy will be happy and you won't have to worry about your brother-in-law."

Jory guessed that did make sense. Of course, Alfie's smile was waning. Evidently, the move stunned him.

 Jory only smiled more. He wanted Alfie out of the picture anyway even if he did end up being a neighbor. Alfie wouldn't be living with Poppy anymore. 

"I guess I could give it a try," Jory shrugged. "How about you? Alfie?"

Alfie was still thinking on it. "But..but..Steve, you haven't even talked to  Simon  about any of this, have you?"
