Poppy thought she might go stir-crazy. Or was it winter cabin fever?
Seriously, she knew she'd made a mistake now. She didn't really love Jory after all. She could hardly stand to live in the same apartment with him. They had consummated nothing. And there was no place to go, except to Alfie.
"What am I going to do?" She bit her thumbnail into the quick.
Of course, Alfie wasn't quite as fetching as she remembered. When she looked at him now, he was a far cry from that guy she saw in line at the university cafeteria so long ago.
"These things take time," he started as he plopped himself on his unmade bed. It wasn't that he'd exactly brought her here. She'd wanted to be alone. Really alone and that meant she didn't want Steve nor Simon to hear.
She shook her head, no.
"I was wrong. I was so wrong about him," she was in tears.
"What did he do?" Alfie wanted to know if Jory had hurt her, even his hurtful words.
"Nothing," she looked at Alfie. "It's not his fault. I just-" She plopped down next to him and he put his arm around her. It was like an invitation. Possibly. She kissed his cheek which instantly immerged a kiss. Sort of unexpected, but not really.
It was true. They should have been together all along. It was a natural instinct. And she would not stop him now. If it was to be, it was now or never and it definitely looked like never was in the past tense as the warmth intensified and being together was so fluid.
Possibly, the best day of her life. It reached new heights and came undone in all of maybe twenty minutes, but who was counting.
Afterward, she wondered what she was feeling. It was three in the afternoon and she felt as if she could hibernate right here for the rest of winter. In spite of dirty socks on the floor and cleaned clothes mixed with unclean at the far corner of the bed, it didn't matter. There were even overdue books on the nightstand and yet the light of winter came through the curtains making it all so cozy and divine.
She could sleep now and worry about Jory tomorrow.
Commendable really❤... Keep going 🌈
