Jax was happy when Ste and Mira finally got in the lemo and were driven away after the brunch. It was time to get to work. He and a few guys he knew started moving out everything from Ste's place so they could remodel it into a home. Plus there were other vacant rooms that weren't used above the bakery.
It would be an undertaking, but he'd been studying on it for weeks now. True, he'd only met his brother recently, but he wanted to let him know they (even if half-brothers) were family. Actually, it sort of brought him to tears.
All this time, he'd thought his brother had had a lot, having his father around while Jax didn't. Still, he'd learned from Ste that his father had always been a working man when it came to something simple as baking bread.
And though, that was in the past, it was at least a tradition that Ste carried on, in spite of being a world away from where it started. Perhaps, it might not have made Ste rich. Jax knew money wasn't everything. Although, he enjoyed making money when he could.
He knew he'd always wanted to be able to buy his mother a house and somehow, after working all sorts of manual jobs and getting into college he'd somehow managed to do that after studying business.
Of course, it was nice to get busy with taking apart the upstairs and finding ways to make the apartment better with lots more shelving and storage. It was satisfying to see it come together. Although, it took several days to make the apartment into a home. One of Amira's friends came to help. Which was a surprise.
He hadn't expected to meet Karrie, but she did have a knack for color and helped with the painting and making curtains. Jax didn't remember her at the wedding.
"Oh, I stayed away," she said she wasn't sure if it was safe. She was doing her best to stay socially distant. But she helped out at the bakery making sandwiches, usually on Fridays.
Jax couldn't help to smile. He knew he probably would have never met her if she wasn't a friend of his brother's wife.
Nice post. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteI can't think of a better wedding gift than redoing the happy couple's apartment. Also, it was interesting to learn that Ste and Jax are long-lost brothers. It seems like a romance may be budding between Jax and Karrie. Love it!
